Hong Kong Airport Launches Free City Tours for Transit Passengers

Hong Kong International Airport has introduced a free tour program to encourage transit passengers with long layovers to experience the city’s attractions.

The new initiative, developed in partnership with Trip.com, targets the 5.5 million travellers who transit through the airport each year with layovers of more than seven hours. Participants can join guided four-hour tours exploring cultural and scenic highlights, such as Wong Tai Sin Temple, Sham Shui Po markets, Victoria Harbour, and West Kowloon’s waterfront. From December, a countryside-focused itinerary on Lantau Island will also be available.

Vivian Cheung Kar-fay, CEO of the Airport Authority, said the program aims to strengthen Hong Kong’s role as a leading international aviation hub. “We are thrilled to introduce the free layover tour service … this is just the beginning, with more curated shopping, dining, wellness and cultural experiences under development,” she noted.

Each tour accommodates up to 20 passengers per day and includes complimentary round-trip transport and professional English-speaking guides. Operational costs are fully covered by Trip.com, ensuring the experience is free of charge without hidden costs or forced shopping stops.

Transit passengers can pre-book online or register at the Trip.com counter upon arrival at the airport, provided they meet Hong Kong’s visa and entry requirements. Spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Airport officials said the tours are designed to give visitors a taste of Hong Kong’s unique character and encourage them to return for longer stays in the future.
